Occasionally, Red Paw has the opportunity to work with a legal firm or community organization in the pursuit of social justice. In this case, an Atlanta Area legal team hired Red Paw to perform some basic demographic mapping of Fulton County, Georgia, the state’s most populated county and home to the city of Atlanta. In this case, we mapped the level of minority home ownership at the Census Tract level (illustrated by multicolored polygons), alongside the number of foreclosures (show with dots) between 2012 and 2019. What we discovered was that in areas of higher minority home ownership throughout the county, there was a much higher rate of bank foreclosures, indicating the prevalence of predatory lending to minority homeowners. This pattern also held true for two particular neighboring suburban counties as well.
